Description |
To undertake the next two Scottish Schools Adolescent Lifestyle and Substance Use Surveys due in 2008 and 2010. The survey in 2008 will sample approximately 9 000 pupils in order to provide national estimates of smoking, drinking and drug use among pupils in Secondary 2 and Secondary 4. The survey in 2010 will provide estimates at local level and will therefore have a considerably larger sample (approximately 30 000 +) which will be drawn from Secondary 2 and Secondary 4 pupils in all Scottish secondary schools. The surveys are conducted on behalf of the Scottish Government in order to provide estimates of smoking, drinking and drug use
among secondary school children. The surveys provide trends for smoking from 1982, for drinking from 1990 and for drug use from 1998. Information on associated lifestyle, health and social factors is also obtained from the surveys.
The Contractor will design and draw the sample, supervise and monitor the fieldwork in schools, lead and supervise data processing, carry out analysis and reporting and undertake data archiving. The fieldwork should be planned to minimise disruption to schools. Fieldwork will take place in the Autumn Terms in 2008 and 2010.
The survey content will cover prevalence, patterns of behaviour and attitudes of pupils, friends and families in relation to smoking, drinking and drug use, including contextual information on other lifestyle, health and social issues.
