4. Number of convictions, in Scottish courts, for ‘possession with intent to supply drugs’

Statistics on persons convicted of drugs related offences are available from the Scottish Executive Justice Department’s court proceedings database. They are derived from the information on court proceedings held on the police operational computer at the Scottish Criminal Record Office.

Indicator

In 1997, there were 1,490 persons 1 convicted in Scottish courts for ‘possession with intent to supply drugs’2. The corresponding figures for 1996 and 1995 were 1,383 and 1,064 respectively, Figure 4.4. The number of convictions increased by 40.0% between 1995 and 1997.

Statistics for 1998 are still to be published.
