The Elisad Internet Gateway on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs
http://www.addictionsinfo.eu/
The European Association of Libraries
and Information Services on Alcohol and other Drugs (Elisad) is a non-profit
making association. Elisad's main goal is to enable those working in the
field of substance misuse to exchange ideas and experience.
Elisad initiated a project funded by the European Commission
to create an Internet Gateway on ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs).
At a time when an ever-increasing amount of ATOD information
is available and the information is of varying levels of completeness
and quality this project aims to provide professionals with a tool that
critically reviews ATOD sites and will help them to use the Internet to
quickly find valuable ATOD information and documents.
The Drug Misuse Information Scotland (DMIS) website has
been evaluated by Elisad using the following criteria.
Focusing solely on substance use & addictive behaviour websites, DMIS
was the joint highest ranked UK website (90%) with only 7 European sites
receiving a higher rating (388 evaluated).
These results suggest that the DMIS site is one of
the strongest Substance Misuse websites in Europe. Indeed the site is
described
as "..a very comprehensive and detailed Source article of information
on drugs, prevalence treatment and policy. The site contains authoritative
and comprehensive statistical information, practical advice for drug users,
policy documents, and good practice guidelines.."
