Reclassification of Cannabis

The Government are reclassify cannabis from a Class B to a Class C drug. The new legislation takes effect across the United Kingdom from the 29 January 2004. See below for Scottish policy and related UK briefings.

Possession of cannabis will remain a criminal offence in spite of reclassification next week to Class C, Deputy Justice Minister Hugh Henry has stated.

UK policy

On 29th January 2004, cannabis will be reclassified from a Class B to a Class C drug across the UK. As a controlled drug, production, supply and possession remains illegal.
